Unit 3 Biology – Head Start Lectures (3 x 3 Hour Lectures) – New Study Design

Our ‘Summer School – Head Start’ program is designed to reduce your stress and study loads and to secure the best possible advantage for Unit 3.

When you attend these lectures, you’ll work through course materials and potential SAC questions ahead of school, receive vital tips regarding assessments and learn important problem-solving and analytical skills so you can achieve the highest possible SAC marks.

You’ll also receive a detailed, comprehensive set of A+ notes as well as access to an audio-visual recording of your lectures so you can revise efficiently for your SACs and exams. These recordings are available on an unlimited basis until 30 June 2022.

Topics that will be covered during these include:

The structure, function and production of DNA and RNA, genes and their regulation, amino acids, proteins, hierarchical  protein structure, enzymes and their applications in DNA manipulations, the function and application of CRISPR-Cas9 in genome editing and other molecular tools and techniques used in gene technologies. Students will also study the structure and regulation of biochemical pathways – focusing on photosynthesis and cellular respiration.

Unit 3 Biology – Prerequisites (1 x 3.5 Hour Lecture) – New Study Design

Many students incorrectly believe that there’ll be sufficient opportunities to revise Unit 1 & 2 materials when they return to school. Those students who do start their Unit 3 studies lacking strong foundations in Year 11 concepts will find it difficult to cope with new course materials and will obtain lower marks than otherwise possible, particular where their Unit 3 SACs are concerned.

The ‘Unit 3 Prerequisite Lecture’ is designed to revise and strengthen key Unit 1 and Unit 2 concepts that are instrumental in performing well in Unit 3. This important lecture will greatly benefit all students, especially those who are aiming for the higher VCE marks. Students who didn’t perform well in their Unit 1 and/or Unit 2 studies, or who didn’t complete the equivalent Unit 1 and/or Unit 2 course are strongly encouraged to attend. This lecture is optional for students.
